The past month has been the Muslim holiday of Ramadan, when people fast from sun up to sun down. The Muslim students at my school (from Africa and the Middle East) have been staying on our floor during lunch so they don't have to sit in the cafeteria with all of the other students who are eating. The guys stay in my room, and it's a great opportunity to see some of my former students. The other day, 3 of them (all from Yemen) were asking what Jonathan and I were planning to name the baby. I told them that we've made a list, but haven't narrowed it down to one name. Here's the conversation that ensued:
Daud: You should name him Daud, the Arabic form of David. That way he can be half-Arabic and half-American.
Suliman: No way, Miss Leah. You only had them in class for 1 year, but you had me in class for TWO years. That means you have to name him Suliman! If not, where is the respect?
Khaled: C'mon Miss, their names mean nothing! Name him Khaled - it means "loyalty," and "lasts for a very, very, very long time."
And with that, those three names were officially added to the list.

This blog has now gone international. Great to hear from Kamush!
I've heard the list of names and I like them all. But I have another to add: Oliver! The little guy has been referred to as Olive for the better part of a year.. why change his name now? Ha! And you are right, he certainly likes to move around. Feeling him move past my fingers like a fish was unbelievable! GO PATRIOTS!
hi leah, i asked from Albina, how you will be call to Leah's and John's baby? And she said: may be call to him JOLE. If we took the first and second letters from Jonathan "JO" and from Leah "LE" and then to connect these letters it will turn out "Mr JOLE".
love,
Aiman and Albina
