Ted the Great Blue Heron

Last Sunday we went to Teatown Lake Reservation; Caleb and I walked down the path while Jonathan went for a run through the woods. While we were on the path we saw a great blue heron standing on a log in the middle of the lake. Take a look at the first picture, and if you look closely in the middle of the photo you can see a long, thin thing sticking straight up. (Better yet, click on the photo to enlarge it and the heron is easy to see.)

Caleb and I named him Ted. While we were sitting there a few people gathered around to see it and they were all whispering to each other about what they were seeing. Caleb turned to me, put his right pointer finger to his lips, and went "sshhh." He didn't want to disturb Ted.
