April pictures & stories

We were at my parents' house a few weeks ago and we wanted to weigh Caleb. "Use the food scale!" my dad exclaimed, but the food scale only holds up to 12 pounds, so that was out. "Use the regular scale!" I said, but that wouldn't give us an exact enough reading. So we decided to use the meat hook. The meat hook is not actually a meat hook, but a device that weighs luggage. It's got a large metal hook on the end of it, and while Caleb WAS wearing overalls, we didn't think it was appropriate to hook it through his overall straps, lest the snaps come undone and he fall through the middle.

What was our solution? An eco-friendly, Caleb-friendly, meat hook-friendly reusable canvas bag. (Good for carrying chicken and weighing babies.) We gently sat Caleb in the canvas bag and picked up the bag with the meat hook. 15 pounds! He didn't seem any worse for the wear, and it was certainly a whole lot easier than taking him to the post office and passing him over the counter.

Jonathan and I have been taking advantage of the good weather and walking in Central Park a lot. (As Jonathan's dad said, "We've got a small apartment but a hell of a front yard!) The Harlem Meer (Dutch for 'pond') is right across the street, and it's a great place to go to watch the ducks and have a picnic.

My dad bought a scanner and he's on a mission to scan all of our old family photos, which is a great idea. Here are just a few of my favorites with my sister & I with our childhood best friends, Jenny & David Aubin:

PS - Great Grandma McCon was the first one to get 10 points! Noam Chomsky it is.
