A general summary of weeks 7 - 20

Since I didn't get around to creating this blog until now (20 weeks), I have a lot of catching up to do.

Jonathan and I first found out that we were having a baby in late April, and we were ecstatic. I had an easy first trimester; very little nausea and no headaches. The major change was in my energy level...I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. Since I've always had a lot of energy, this was difficult to get used to. I would go home from school and need to sleep for 2-3 hours before dinner. I wanted to continue exercising, even if it was just walking, but it was too difficult for me to do right after school. Around the 16th week it started getting better and I was able to go out for walks around Central Park. Now, at the 20th week, I've gotten about 90% of my energy back. I still haven't been able to go back to Capoeira yet, which is something I hope to do soon.

Other than that, Jonathan and I have just been relaxing. When I first found out I was pregnant I decided to take the summer off completely, and J & I have been traveling to see family and friends. I got another great book from my friend Patience called Spa Mama, which gives great suggestions on how a pregnant woman can pamper herself during pregnancy without feeling guilty. It's been a very calm summer, and we hope that rubs off on the start of the school year in September!

My belly has started to grow a lot in the past few weeks, and soon I'll post pictures on how it's changed.

Erin’s summary of weeks 5-21:

Week 5: I’m going to be an aunt! YIPPEE!!!!! I can’t wait to tell everyone!!! ...... Wait, whaddaya mean, I can’t tell anyone?

Weeks 6-7: Hey everyone, guess what?!? I’m going to be an aunt....er, I mean an AUNTelope. Yes, yes, an auntelope. You know, those animals with the pointy horns on the top of their heads. Auntlers. (Phew, that was a close one.)

Week 8: Oh thank goodness, Leah and Jonathan have just made the announcement. Now I can stop pretending to be an herbivorous mammal. People were starting to give me strange looks.

Week 12: Hey, it’s pretty convenient that those flowy empire waist shirts are back in style. No need to buy maternity clothes; just buy some of those shirts and they’ll grow with you. In fact, I kinda like those shirts for myself. Wonder if any are on sale?

Week 14: Wow – that’s fantastic that you’re going to use cloth diapers instead of plastic!! Way to save the environment!! Just don’t ask me to rinse them out for you!!

Week 17: I’m in NY visiting Leah and Jonathan, and whoa, someone on the subway just offered to give up their seat for Leah. Okay, now she is officially pregnant, because NY’ers won’t give up their subway seats for anyone except pregnant women and people carrying very small dogs in purses.

Weeks 18-19: Is it a boy or a girl? Is it a boy or a girl? Is it a boy or a girl? Is it a boy or a girl? Is it a boy or a girl? ......

Week 20: It’s a boy?? Cool!!! What are you going to name him? What are you going to name him? What are you going to name him? What are you going to name him? ......

Week 21: Wow, my sister looks all pretty and pregnancy-glowy. That’s sure going to be one happy baby! Can’t wait to meet him!

Love,
Auntie Merin
